Service Provision
All services are
confidential and provided free of charge.
Helpline
The helplines provide a sign posting service for initial
queries and referrals into the agency.
The two public lines are staffed by a helpline supervisor and
volunteers. All services are initially
accessed via the help lines.
Advice Centres
The advice centres
provide the first point of contact for families seeking help, advice and
support. Support workers are
available at both centres to see women by appointment or to answer queries
over the telephone.
On initial contact,
support workers will assess, with the family, the most appropriate care
package to meet their needs and will either provide support through the
advice centre or access the family into the most appropriate service e.g.
refuge/outreach/child worker or other organisation.
Refuge Accommodation
We provide temporary
refuge, in a place of safety, for women and their children fleeing
violence. Each family has its own
bedroom and shares kitchen, bathroom and sitting rooms. Families living in refuge are provided
with practical and emotional support throughout their stay. If accommodation is full or unsuitable
for a family e.g. too near home, therefore leaving the family at risk,
accommodation will be found elsewhere through the network of other Women’s
Aid Organisations.
Outreach
Workers are
available to visit women outside the centres, wither at home or in a
suitable safe location. All aspects
of support can be offered to a family as required. This can include visits to the police to
give statements, supporting women at court, attending case conferences
etc. Ongoing support is available,
as well as crisis support, sometimes over many months. This support is also available to
families who may have to re-locate or be re-housed either form a refuge or
from the existing home.
Children’s Services
Dedicated workers
are available to provide both practical and emotional support to children
and young people aged 0-17years who have or are currently living in violent
environments. It is usual for
mum/guardian to also be receiving support from either the outreach/advice
or refuge services. However,
individual assessments are made upon initial referral.
Therapeutic Services
Qualified
counsellors are available for short or long term counselling, both for
resident and non-resident service users.
The service is designed to help women come to terms with what has
happened / or is happening to them.
Counselling offers women the opportunity to talk about how they feel
in a confidential and safe environment.
Other therapeutic
services such as guided relaxation are also available.
Welfare Benefits
A Welfare and
Benefits Officer provides practical assistance to families in financial
need.
Solicitors Surgeries
Solicitors are
available, by appointment, to see women at the centre. Appointments can be made via the advice
centre.
Awareness Training
Training courses are
run throughout the year in both the north and south of the borough. They are open to women who want to gain
better understanding about the nature of Domestic Violence and its impact
upon society.
